Visit to the 'Palau de la Opera' in Valencia

Even though it is only just over six years old, the “Palau de la Opera” has become one of the most representative symbols of the city of Valencia. Its modern, almost galactic profile is recognized throughout the world and has transformed the City of Arts and Sciences into a must-visit location if you are in the Turia area. It goes without saying, then, that it would be one of the star trips of our Valencia school. In fact, this post is illustrated with the photos from one such visit.

Also known as “Palau de las arts Reina Sofia” (the Reina Sofia Palace of Arts) it is possibly the most well known piece of work by the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava and one of the greatest exponents of his particular style which is evocative of both the avant-garde movement artists such as Gaudí and of classic Greek and Roman temples.

The Palace boasts a huge main hall, equipped to hold a total of 1481 spectators and is used exclusively for the most epic of opera performances, such as La Boheme, Carmen and even an adapted version of George Orwell’s 1984. Another hall, the Aula Magistral (Master Room) has been kitted out to hold conferences of up to 400 people. Within the same site, we will find an auditorium for 1500 spectators designed for events ranging from classical musical concerts to political summits. Finally, adjacent to the Palace you will find the Martin y Soler Theatre, designed for drama productions and with a capacity of 400 people.

As you can see, the building is striking due to its elegant shape and well lit spaces. Even though it is a huge construction it is also comfortable and practical in that there are still some very typically Spanish elements to it: all devised so that we can feel just as at home here either with friends or in a lengthy conference. In this space tradition, art and modernity go hand in hand to form a space that is grandiose but at the same time accessible.

Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine the city without this building, whose image has reached every corner of the globe and has placed Valencia amongst the greatest cities in Europe. Without doubt, if you come to our school in Valencia we will be delighted to show it to you.
