Information technology / La informática
Although the world of technology, especially that of information technology, is full of English terms which you are sure to recognise, many of these words have been translated into Spanish so they can be better understood in Spain. They may not have changed very much, or they may have changed completely in order to build on existing Spanish words that will make more sense to Spanish people; it is important to know which of them have gone in which direction, as some will be easy to remember and some might take a bit more work.
Computers have really become a part of daily life, whether you are sitting in front of a desktop computer, using your laptop, or even browsing the web on your tablet or phone. It is important to be able to talk about these things in a general context because they are something that may come up in conversation time and time again!
These terms will be very useful for you, especially if you want to start work in a Spanish speaking office environment or to deal with Spanish clients and business partners in the future who might be communicating with you from an office. In this section, you can find the most commonly used words in Spanish to refer to hardware, software and interaction with programs which you might have to use in computer related situations. You will no longer have to worry if you start to have problems with your computer while you are in Spain, because now you will be able to talk about the problem and also ask someone how to solve it for you! If you are going to be in a situation where it is likely that you will need these words, we recommend that you keep them close at hand until you have learned them off by heart, so that you can refer back to them as need for use in whatever situation may arise.
