At school / En la escuela
If you have come to Spain in order to learn Spanish, then it is obvious that you will have to learn a lot of different words that are related to your classes: for example, you will speak about the classroom, perhaps a high school, your fellow students, stationery… These words are very easy to learn but, if you do have any doubts, we are here to help. We have put together some useful words for you here that might come in handy in all kinds of academic situations.
It is easy to see how you might need these words right from the beginning of your stay. If you have not been able to get to the school the way that you expected to then you might want to ask a local for directions to it, and once you are inside you may need to ask someone which is the correct way to go in order to get to the particular classroom that you need. After class you might hear instructions from your teacher on how to get to the library in order to do some extra study, or how to get to the dining hall if you are going to be in need of something to eat. It is necessary to know that it is you who is being referred to if someone addresses you as a student, and to know how to attract the attention of a teacher. We might be able to go on forever listing all of the ways in which you need this vocabulary while you are learning!
This page includes both the terms most commonly used in school or in the classroom and also refers to more academic aspects such as subject names so that you know just what to call them. Thanks to these words, you will be able to communicate without any problems with your teachers, classmates or even the administrative staff in your school, so make sure that you take a look at them before you set off and think about learning those which might come in the most handy.
