Getting to Monteverde
By plane
To fly into Costa Rica you'll likely arrive at the Juan Santamaría International airport in San José, the country's capital city. From there, you'll have to take a bus to Monteverde / Santa Elena.
By bus
Costa Rica's bus system is very efficient and incredibly inexpensive. It's about a 5-hour bus ride between San José, where the airport is located, and Monteverde. All buses make a stop in the bus terminal in the center of Santa Elena, the town that neighbors Monteverde. Many of the buses also continue on and stop at Monteverde's Cheese Factory.
