Isabel Allende is a world-famous Chilean writer who produced some of the most commercially read Spanish novels. She was born in 1942 in Lima, Peru but following the disappearance of her father, the Chilean ambassador to Peru, she returned with her mother to Chile.
She began her literary career as a magazine editor. The family returned to Chile in 1958, she married in 1962 and led a life that combined looking after her children and boosting herself to be a well known TV personality.
