“Ya que la casa se quema, calentémonos en ella” (Since the house is on fire, warm ourselves in it)
Since evil and bad things are inevitable, we might as well get something positive out of the experience. This attitude is why we say this saying, another version that is quite dramatic says “There is nothing bad that doesn’t give something good”, or known as the popular saying, “every cloud has a silver lining”.
Maybe we should add some nuance to this, even though something terrible happens, the end is actually quite optimistic: we want to say that even in a desperate situation, there is always a way of harnessing it to our advantage. It is a saying that is particularly relevant to what is going on in the world today.
