Countries & Cities / Los paises y las ciudades
Although in the majority of cases, the name which is used to refer to a certain country hardly changes at all between Spanish and English, there are other occasions when there is a big difference which makes the place almost unrecognisable if you do not know already what the translation is. In this vocabulary section, you can see both cases that we have brought together for you to see and to learn if you can memorise them from this list.
You will also find in this list the names of different continents, oceans and, in an illustrative way, some names of the seas that you may come across on your travels. If you are thinking about going to a new country and you want to tell one of your Spanish friends about it or if you have to speak with a Spanish client about other markets, this vocabulary will be a great help to you. Not only that, but it helps when you are meeting new people (you can find out where they are from), when you are watching or reading the news (you can find out where the news stories are happening), when you discuss business (where products come from or are delivered to, where the raw materials come from, and so forth), when reading a book or watching a film (so that you can understand the setting), and so on. There are a lot of cases in which you might need to talk about different places in the world, and besides which it can also be very interesting to find out about what the names of these different places are too! This will help you a lot when it comes to arranging travel to other Spanish speaking countries or just when making idle conversation, so keep this list handy if you want to be able to check back on it and test yourself on what you have learned.
